I'm not sure if I should even be writing this...we've found the most beautiful place in South Carolina, possibly the southeast...and no one knows about this place.
Upstate South Carolina turns from flat coastal plains to gently rolling hills, into a vast expanse of verdant mountains in the summer. The perfect place for crystal clear fresh water, rocky coastline and white sandy beaches....oh, this lake also has about 9 waterfalls reminiscent of Hana in Maui.
If you live in the area and haven't been here, you may want to add this one to your list.
Where to stay? Camp. Devils Fork is a SC State Park on the lake, but reserve your spot early because the few of us that know about this place are usually the ones to come back and space is limited. You may also find a vacation rental by owner, www.vrbo.com, search for Lake Jocassee or Lake Keowee.
You'll also want to check in with the Jocassee Outdoor Center, www.jocasseeoutdoorcenter.com for all your fishing and boating needs. We used Stephanie Couch (864) 704-0004 & www.lakejocassee.com the first time up and rented one of her pontoon boats...she was a great ambassador for Lake Jocassee and very easy to work with. We had so much fun, we bought a pontoon boat on the way home and just got back from our second trip to Jocassee this past weekend.
